******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY ********************

Reggaeton music is a music classification which has evolved from Latin and Caribbean music, and have been invented, formed, and made popular in Puerto Rico where most of its current artists hail. Reggaeton is a colorful fusion of musical influences of Jamaican dancehall, Trinidadian soca, Latin American styles particularly salsa, bomba, electronica, and Latin American hip hop. Reggaeton vocals include singing and rapping (often both) typically done in Spanish. The lyrics tend to be derived from hip hop and have common themes like violence, poverty, drugs, friendship, sex, and love. Although it derives its influence from Jamaican dancehall and hip hop, it offers its own specific rhythm and beat, and is not a Hispanic or Latin American version of either aforementioned genres. Reggaeton is characterized by a particular “riddim” called "Dem Bow".

2004 was the crossover year for Reggaeton when it hit mainstream exposure and became widespread to North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
